"Crimson-purple; has a dusting of spice and pepper on the plum and blackberry fruit of the bouquet; the palate has very good texture and length, the fruit flavours enhanced by spot-on picking." Rated 94

2008 Postcode [2582] Shiraz

"It smells fresh and sweet, but boy, does it deliver a mouthful of yummy flavour. It's got softness, impact and character. It tastes of plums, raisins, cherries and dried herbs, and when you swallow it leaves an aftertaste of hazelnuts, spice and fresh, ripe berries. Super drinking." 92 Points.

Wine Notes

2008 Shiraz [2582]

Region: Murrumbateman

Alcohol: 14.0%

Winemaker: Rhys Eather

Philosophy: For the POSTCODE label we select fruit to make wines that clearly show their “postcode” by  exhibiting true regional and varietal character.

Fruit Source: Mature vineyard at Murrumbateman in the Canberra District.

Winemaking: Handpicked fruit was fermented in open vats and plunged twice daily. After pressing, the wine was transferred into French and American oak for 18 months maturation before being bottling in February 2010.

Winemakers notes: With so many wine regions experiencing problems across Australia in 2008, the Canberra and Hilltops regions were hitting their straps and producing top-shelf fruit which also carried through to the 2009 vintage.

Tasting note: The nose has black pepper, ripe plum and dark berry scents with subtle oak influence. The palate is full-bodied, has considerable length of flavour and is flush with supple fruit and tannin.

Cellaring: Drinking wonderfully now but will hold for a few years to come.

What the experts say

"This high quality Hunter Valley winery loves to dabble in varieties and styles not common in the region. This Shiraz is from Murrumbateman, just outside Canberra: postcode 2582. It's a lovely, drink-me-now wine with juicy red berry flavours, some mint and plums, good depth of flavour and lots of pepper and spice on the finish. Good on its own or with meat or pasta. Top value."

Rick Allen - Parramatta Advertiser - 7th April 2010

"Rich and almost chocolate cakey with black pepper, black cherry and a dusting of vanilla oak. Medium to full bodied with plenty of dark fruit and spice and submerged powdery tannins. Finishes dry with good length. Continued to improve over a couple of day’s tasting, pulling more savoury and stylish towards the end. An altogether tidy package for the price." 91 Points.

Gary Walsh - The Winefront - 12th April 2010
